Important Notes Regarding Guided Kayaking Excursions.
  • Kayaking is physically demanding and if you feel that you are not up to it, it is best not to attempt it.

  • Some kayaking experience is highly advised.

  • Unless other arrangements are made, you are responsible for handling your own transportation to the put in site.

  • Unless noted otherwise, you are responsible for your own food and drink.

  • You must sign a release form prior to embarking on a kayaking trip.

  • The water in San Francisco Bay is cold, a wetsuit though not required is greatly advised.

  • Even with staying clear of the shipping lanes and staying close to land, kayaking is not without it's risks, conditions can vary wildly within even a few minutes.

  • As most of you know, beach combing results can vary widely from one day to the next, as such some trips will be more productive then others.

  • The map above shows the general area of the trip and does not provide exact details nor route that will be taken.

  • You can bring along pieces of sea glass found on your own beach combing excursions in order for Charles to appraise them and or make jewelry from them.

  • Charles is known for wearing a wetsuit, surfing booties, life vest and a collecting bag while kayaking. Though you do not need to wear the same gear as Charles, plan on bringing a towel a change of clothes and if you choose to, similar gear as to what Charles will be wearing.

  • No collecting buckets, small bags work best.

  • One of the benefits of beach combing with Charles as your guide, is he will enter the crash zone in the surf to work the gravel washes that are difficult to access. If you choose to do this yourself, be prepared for very cold water and rough conditions possibly even life threatening as this activity can be quite dangerous. You cannot do this without a wetsuit and PFD. (life vest)

  • Full payment is due at the time of your booking in order to secure your reservation.

  • If you fail to show up at the prearranged location at the predetermined time, you will be not be refunded your deposit. If you provide a minimum of one week notice of cancellation you will receive a full refund of your deposit less a $5 processing fee.

Notes Regarding Kayaking San Francisco Bay
  • San Francisco has a rich history with several events which led to glass entering the bay in one form or another.

  • Along with the industry built along the shores of the bay and the garbage dumps, there were other events which led to glass being discarded.

  • San Francisco Bay is the home to several shipwrecks whose watery graves will from time to time release a shard or two of perfectly frosted sea glass.

  • Many household glass items that were lost during the great earthquake and fire of 1906 ended up on barges destined for use as landfill in the bay.

  • During the prohibition, great quantities of liquor bottles were bashed at the piers and the shards swept into the swirling waters of the bay.

  • At one time or another nearly every color imagined has been found in this area.

  • It is possible to find several handfulls of sea glass on these trips and you are almost guanteed a piece of "Vaseline" sea glass.

  • As an added bonus it is possible to find historical artifacts and other beach combed treasures on trips to this area.

  • One may encounter sea lions, harbor seals, brown pelicans and many other animals on these trips.

  • Though it is possible to find bottle stoppers on this trip, there is of course no guarantees.
