Drilling sea glass, garnets, sapphires and so forth is a skill that requires experience, tools, and time. Not everyone wants to or is capable of drilling their own sea glass etc. For a small fee we are happy to drill many difficult to drill materials such as sea glass and garnets.

Most of the holes drilled in beach glass are front to back and near the end of the narrow side of the piece of material being drilled. This style of drilling is perfect for making pendants with a jump ring or by wire wrapping a bail. From time to time we come across pieces that may be drilled side to side, this is not an easy operation and as such these types of holes are quoted on an individual basis where we must see the glass before quoting a price for the holes to be drilled. Center drilling to create beads works well too. Some pieces of sea glass lend themselves to other applications where you may want to place several holes in various locations so as to create a station or some other jewelry making piece. Holes may be drilled as small as .75 mm in diameter and as large as 2.5+ mm. The vast majority of the holes that we drill are 1.5 mm and are drilled front to back. To the right is a conversion chart to assist in sizing of holes and choosing the correct bit size for the job. It is important to bear in mind that it is good to adjust for a small amount of lateral movement when drilling the hole, so actual hole sizes tend to be a tiny bit larger then shown in the chart.

Some materials are harder then sea glass to drill and as such require more time and effort to drill and the price will be adjusted to reflect this.
